The Little Einsteins, Lawyers, and YOUR Heart
In the New Testament church, the called themselves Christians. Christian, literally means little Christs. *Cue Little Einsteins theme song* So we are Christians, thus we are little Christs. Why? Because we are moving toward being more like Christ.
Salvation is a moment, sanctification is a process.
We are all in a process, moving towards the likeness of Christ. If I read my Bible correctly, you ARE already made in the likeness of God and the sanctification process is moving you closer to His distinctive likeness. As He begins to wipe away the shame, hurt, past, and brokenness that shroud our likeness from His, we begin to see who we are. Restoration begins. The process of becoming Little Christs initiates.
We already explored what that process is and why we go through it. (You can check it out here)We did not talk about how to make it through the process.IF you are feeling tired and exhausted from the processes of cleansing the past and preparing for the future; you are in the right place. IF you feel like you are lost in the middle of the process, not sure if it will end; you are right where you need to be. So, just take roughly 210 seconds and continue reading...How do we make it through?1. Know His Name - Exodus 3:13-16
I AM. If you know who says, “I AM,” then you need not know who they say you are. It no longer matters what other people say you are if you know who He is. Do you know who He is?
Names are very important. In Genesis, Adam is commanded to name all of the living things of the earth. They need a name in order to operate in it. For example, if you have a friend who is a lawyer, he cannot operate as your lawyer unless you name him as your lawyer. Why? Because he isn’t your lawyer, but the moment you name Him as yourlawyer, He can operate in the role that he has been named. He has the rights associated with the title.
If you do not know the names of God, how will you know the way He operates? How will you recognize His hand in your life? You won’t know because you don’t know His name.If you don’t know the name of God, how will you know your name? 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24, “Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely, and may your entire spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The One who calls you is faithful, and He will do it.” You know Him by His name, and He knows you by your name. He calls you. He sees you. There is a name that He has placed on you, but if you do not know His name, then you cannot recognize the authority by which He acts. Thus, you will not know your name.If you don’t know the name of God, how will people know your name? You are called a name by God, but if you do not accept it and live in it, others will not know you by it. They will only know you by your old name. The name of the rat in the engine compartment. (See Previous Blog)Know His name.2. Know His Face In the book of Exodus, three months after leaving Egypt Moses is called up to Mount Sinai and God delivers the law to Him. Moses asks to see the face of God, but God replies telling Him that no man can see the face of God and live, but Moses gets to see the back of God. As a result, His face starts to shine. Moses then goes down the mountain to find the Israelites worshipping a Golden calf. You know this part of the story. He breaks the 10 Commandments in anger and rage. What Veggie Tales doesn’t tell us is that he calls the Levites, His family, together, and orders them to kill any many who worshipped the golden calf. Thousands are killed. Moses saw the back of God.In the New Testament, we see Jesus on Mount Tabor in Matthew 17 with Peter, James, and John, in a story most commonly called The Transfiguration. It says in verse 2 that His face shone like the sun, for He was transfigured. Moses and Elijah come down. The Father shines down on Jesus and calls Him His beloved. The disciples fall on their faces, but Jesus replies and tells them to rise and have no fear. They saw the face of Jesus.
We have all been that person, that when we walk into a restaurant and see someone we think we know, we run over to them and tug at their shoulder to say hi. Only to find out that, in fact, it isn’t who you thought it was. Why? Because you only saw the person from their back.
God is the same in Genesis as He is in Revelation, however our understanding of who He is changes as we see more of Him. He was the same on both Mount Sinai as He was on Mount Tabor. The God you think you know, may only be the back of who He is in entirety. To make it through the process of sanctification, you have to know the face of God. For in the face of God mercy and justice are married. Gentleness and correction find a home. Love greater than any force on the planet is birthed. That is the face of God.Know His face.3. Know His Heart - Matthew 19:12-14
Do you know the heart of God? The disciples walked and ate with Jesus, yet they still did not grasp His heart. When the children came they rebuked them, but Jesus welcomed them. The children knew the heart beat of God and were drawn to it.Sanctification is the process of soul transformation, not behavior modification. It will be easy to quit if you do not feel the heartbeat of the one transforming you. It is easy to run away if it isn’t personal, but with God everything is personal. His heart wants to change the way your heart beats to match His. Every little nuance coming into alignment with who He is. You have to Know His heart.Know Him. Know LifeThis process that you are going through will happen more than once. It will happen every time you wake up and every time you go to bed. Everything you face is a moment of transformation. The extraordinary is made in the very ordinary moments.
I love to play guitar. I can be the best guitar player in the, have the best training, know the most knowledge, BUT IF MY GUITAR IS OUT OF TUNE I WILL SUCK. There is no way to get around it. So there is a process of tuning that I have to go through every time I want to play.
As the strings get tightened, they get more in line with the frequency I need them to be. God is the Master Craftsman of your life, tightening the very strings of your heart. You may feel like you are going to break. You may think you can’t get stretched any farther. There isn’t any more room. You never wanted that part of your life touched. There was brokenness here that you thought was handled, but God wants to finish it. There are dreams that you pushed off and have forgotten about. Before you know it, the process has taken place. You are who God called you to be and you can sing the song He has placed inside of your heart.
